How to adjust glasses? How to maintain glasses in the later period?

How to adjust glasses?

Here are solutions to common problems that may occur after receiving glasses. The following are also some methods used by factory adjusters. You may not be proficient at this adjustment process at first, but you will learn it after patiently trying it a couple of times.

The glasses are uneven and tilted when worn.

This can be divided into two situations. One is that they are tilted up and down. The main reason is that the two temples are not on the same horizontal plane. As shown in the figure below, look at the glasses from the side of the frame. First, adjust the connection between the temple and the hinge (marked as ① in the figure), and then adjust the rear part of the temple (marked as ② in the figure). Eventually, only one temple can be seen from the side.

The final effect is as follows: when looking from the side, the two temples overlap.

After knowing how to adjust, you can use the following three steps to determine whether they are adjusted horizontally. Generally, if all three steps are judged accurately, the frame will not be tilted when worn on the face. If one of the steps is not satisfied, continue to adjust:

  1. When the two temples are placed flat, they touch the ground simultaneously.
  2. When the two temples are placed upside down, they touch the ground simultaneously.
  3. When the two temples are placed flat, they are symmetrical about the center.

The frame is too tight and pinches the face.

Here, mainly adjust the connection between the temple and the hinge, as circled in the left picture. It's best to use pliers (wrapped with adhesive tape). Of course, in general, you can also bend it by hand. The gesture is roughly as shown in the right picture.

If you feel that the frame pinches your face, bend the part circled in the left picture outward. In this way, the overall width of the frame becomes larger, and naturally it won't pinch your face. On the contrary, if you think the frame is too large, you can bend it inward. Generally, β-titanium temples have good elasticity and are easy to bend. Copper ones are soft and also easy to bend. Stainless steel ones are a bit harder and require more effort. TR ones need to be held and bent for a while (in winter, TR materials are relatively hard, and you can soak them in hot water to make them soft. Be careful not to soak the lenses in boiling water). Plate frames are too hard to bend. The bending mentioned here and below is done by slowly and tentatively applying force, not by using great force directly.

The frame is too loose and slips down.

If the frame slips down, it may be caused by the following three reasons. So you can adjust these three parts according to the actual situation.

First, the overall width of the frame may be too large. Just like above, adjust the connection between the temple and the hinge and bend it inward. The effect is shown in the following figure. Keep bending until it is neither too loose nor pinches the face.

Second, the length of the temple may be too long and it doesn't hook onto the ear. At this time, you can move the downward bending point of the temple forward or increase the downward bending amplitude so that it can hook onto the ear and won't fall off. The effect is shown in the following figure. Here, you can also use a pair of ear hooks to hook onto the temple and then onto the ear.

Third, it may be that the nose pads are too far apart (everyone's nose shape is different, so the brackets of the nose pads are usually soft and easy to adjust). As a result, the two nose pads don't rest on the nose, and then the glasses are not supported by the nose. At this time, bend the nose pads closer to fit the nose. The effect is shown in the following figure.

The nose pads don't fit the nose.

Push and bend the nose pads up, down, left, and right as shown in the above figure. Try wearing them and readjust until the nose pads fit the nose. One thing to note is not to rotate the brackets of the nose pads, as this may easily cause desoldering. Just push and bend them. You can also press and bend the nose pads while wearing the glasses and looking in the mirror.

The frame is too close to the face.

This is because the nose pads are too close to the bridge of the nose, resulting in a too short distance between the glasses and the nose, and the frame is relatively close to the face. It will feel like the lenses are right on the eyes. Sometimes, this may also cause discomfort when wearing the lenses. At this time, raise the nose pads a little as shown in the following figure. In this way, the frame can be kept a little farther away from the eyes.

TR frames don't have nose pads. If you feel that they are too close to the face, you can buy a pair of nose pad stickers and stick them on the bridge of the nose. Raising them a little in this way will make it much better.

The temples press on the ears.

This is because the downward bending point of the temple is too short compared to the width of the face, resulting in the ears being pressed by the downward bending point. At this time, you can move the downward bending point of the temple backward (first straighten the temple and then bend it at a position a little further back), or reduce the downward bending amplitude so that it won't hook onto the ears anymore. The effect is shown in the following figure.

Replacing lenses, replacing nose pads, tightening or loosening hinges, etc.

To replace lenses, the frames bought before and after must be the same. Then loosen the hinge screws (they may be on the top or bottom). Sometimes, you also need to loosen the temple screws (usually on the top). Insert the lenses properly (for full-frame glasses, insert the raised sharp edges around the edge of the lens into the inner groove of the frame; for half-frame glasses, insert the fishing line into the groove around the edge of the lens). Then tighten all the screws.

Nose pads may turn yellow over time. When replacing them, unscrew the nose pad screws, insert the new nose pads properly, and then tighten the screws.

To adjust the tightness of the opening and closing of the temple, just tighten or loosen the temple screws.

How to maintain glasses later?

Maintenance and other precautions for glasses in daily life:

When cleaning the lenses, never use dry tissues to wipe them, because dry tissues are relatively rough. Wiping them vigorously may scratch the lenses and won't clean them thoroughly. Also, don't use very rough cloth or clothes to wipe them. The correct method is to clean the lenses with clean water (or the cleaning liquid usually given by online stores), and then use a lens cloth (or lens wipes) to dry the water. If there are oil stains that can't be cleaned off, you can use neutral cleaning liquids like dishwashing detergent (acidic or alkaline ones may corrode the coating). When using the lens cloth to wipe, try to wipe in one direction as much as possible. In this way, they will be cleaned quickly and the coating of the lenses won't be scratched. Wiping back and forth may sometimes cause dirt on the lens cloth to wear the lenses and won't clean them thoroughly.

Lenses are afraid of high temperatures. Don't expose the lenses to high-temperature environments for a long time. Keep them away from high-temperature objects like boilers. Also, don't place them under the front windshield of a car and expose them to the sun. Long-term exposure to high temperatures may cause the lenses to peel off the coating.

Don't soak the glasses in water for a long time. Try to wipe off sweat stains as much as possible. This can avoid oxidation of the metal parts or electroplated layers of the glasses and can extend the life of the frame to a certain extent.

When you don't put the glasses in the glasses case, don't place them face down. Wrap them with a lens cloth and then place them face up in the case. This can avoid friction between the lenses and the case.

The lenses of rimless glasses are not protected by frames and are generally more likely to break. Try to handle them gently.

Suggestions for eye protection:

The main reasons for the increase in eye degrees are long-term fatigue of the eye muscles and squinting to see things when you can't see clearly. So here are some suggestions for eye protection:

When facing computers or mobile phones for a long time, or when using your eyes at a fixed distance for a long time, try to look into the distance or relax for 5 - 10 minutes every hour. In this way, the eye muscles won't be chronically tense and lose their focusing ability. If your eyes are dry, you can drop some eye drops or do eye exercises to relax.

If you can't see clearly within 5 meters, it may mean that your vision is less than 0.8. At this time, don't often squint to see things (squinting will make the pupils dilate to make things a little clearer, but it will increase the degree in the long run). If you find that your degree has increased, go for an optometry and get new glasses as soon as possible.

People's vision may become unclear in the morning or evening or when extremely tired, but it may also be a false increase in degrees. You can try to relax your eyes for a few days, drink some wolfberry tea or eat more foods containing vitamin A, and see if it can recover. If it doesn't recover, then it's certain that the degree has indeed increased.

Acquired astigmatism of the eyes is basically caused by incorrect postures when looking at things or strabismus. Don't lie down or tilt your head to look at things for a long time. Don't squint to see things, and don't rub your eyes often.

Try to wear contact lenses or colored contact lenses as little as possible, as they are somewhat harmful to the eyes. After all, there will be a little friction when you roll your eyes, and they are prone to breeding bacteria, especially those with long wearing periods like annual and quarterly ones.
