Is the measurement of pupillary distance and pupillary height in the optometry shops near home accurate?

2025年1月10日 Glasses Magic

As the saying goes, it's easy for those who know how, but difficult for those who don't.

To see if the pupillary height can be measured accurately, just look at the way people wear glasses on the street. How many people can wear glasses without them slipping down? And how many people have their glasses' nose pads running to the tip of their noses and their eyes almost looking out from the upper beam of the frames?

Like this, when you wear glasses like this, does it make sense to mark the pupillary height or not? The answer is no.

So everyone should know, what is the prerequisite for having an accurate pupillary height?

The prerequisite is that the glasses frame must be adjusted properly before marking the pupillary height. Ensure that the frame does not slip on the face and also choose a good frame. After adjustment, make the eyes look out at a position close to the center of the frame.

Only in this way, when wearing glasses, the eyes can really look at things from the marked position. Otherwise, even if you mark accurately, it's okay if you don't move, but once the glasses slip down a little, what's the point of marking?

This doesn't even mention the method of marking the pupillary height. For example, when marking the pupillary height of ordinary aspheric lenses, the lens should be perpendicular to the ground.

In addition, when adjusting the glasses, try to adjust to the normal parameters, such as a 12mm eye-glasses distance, a 6-8 degree tilt angle, and a 170-180 degree mirror angle.

Why is this? Because the lenses are designed according to these wearing parameters. If you don't adjust in place, the degree of the lenses on the face will deviate, and the free-form designed lenses will be affected even more.

So think about how many people on the street wear glasses normally and how many people have their glasses slipping down to the tip of their noses.

According to my observation, more than 90% of people wearing glasses have their glasses slipping down. That is to say, in reality, more than 90% of people's glasses are not marked with pupillary height or do not have meaningful pupillary height.
